Longwood Gardens has always been a stunning backdrop for engagement sessions, and Derek & Shameka’s session last April was no exception. As a newly reopened location for professional photography, Longwood Gardens now requires a $250 photography permit, but the experience of capturing engagement moments in such an iconic space makes it worth the investment.
Derek & Shameka’s love story unfolded beautifully through the gardens, with every location adding its own touch of romance.
We began our session in one of the most picturesque spots in Longwood Gardens—the vibrant tulip fields. April is the perfect time to catch these blooms at their peak, and the explosion of color created a stunning contrast against the couple’s elegant attire.
Next, we made our way to the classic gazebo, a timeless setting for engagement portraits. As we wrapped up, the Longwood Gardens staff surprised us with a special recommendation—a secluded grove of cherry blossoms that isn’t typically open to the public. The intimate setting, with delicate petals drifting in the breeze, made for some of the most breathtaking shots of the day.
After capturing the beauty of spring florals, Derek & Shameka changed into their second outfits, elevating the elegance of the session. Their new look was perfect for our next stop—the grand fountains area. The fountains hadn't turned on yet because it was still early spring, but the rows of trees adjacent to the fountains made for a perfect framing device for a proposal reenactment.
We ended the session near the park entrance, using the iconic Longwood Gardens pathways as a final backdrop. The combination of structured greenery and soft evening light brought a romantic close to their engagement session.
If you’re considering an engagement session at Longwood Gardens, be sure to book your $250 photography permit in advance, as the gardens have updated their policies. The location is well worth it, offering seasonal blooms, elegant architecture, and hidden gems perfect for engagement photos.
